07/13/08 14:37 Who Will Get Home field Advantage for World Series
If your favorite team is challenging for the playoffs and you are hoping to make it to the World Series then like it or not you will be watching the All Star game with more than just counting homers in mind. You will be praying that your league wins the game so your team will get home field advantage in the World Series.

Lets take a look at the facts and stats of who might win those honors.

Although the NL boosts a higher batting average, the AL have more consistent averages withing the top 20 players. The one shining star in the AL is a Texas Ranger who's 95 RBI's is 11 more than anyone in baseball and 27 better than anyone in the AL. The NL has six players with more RBI's than the second place AL who have the DH position; which doesn't make sense to me.

To summarize the hitting side of things the National League has four players with higher averages than anyone in the American League as well has have more homers and more consistent RBI hitters other than Josh Hamilton; giving the hitting advantage to the National League, even with the pitchers having to come to bat.

Now for the Pitching. The Al has 10 pitchers who have 10 wins or more, while the NL has only nine, but do have Brandon Webb who leads MLB with 13. But lets look at those 13. He won his first nine starts and since May 15th he is only 4-4. The ERA leader is Justin Duchscherer in the AL with a nice 1.78. The Al has only six with ERA`s of 3.00 or lower while the NL has eight with ERA`s between 2.28 and 3.00. The AL also has the save leader thanks to Francisco Rodriguez`s 37 which is nine better than anyone else and 13 better than anyone in the NL. With only six players with 20 saves or more, the AL once again tops the NL with seven.

I have to give the pitching nod to the American League thanks to Duchscherer and Rodriguez`s consistent games.

So after all that who will win the game? Your guess is as good as mine. But I am a firm beleiver that all star games of any sport are about the flash, which would give a bit of an edge to the National, where as Championships are won with Defense and Pitching, which the American has.

Next week we will discuss the outcome and how it might play into the world series.
